SNH’s contribution to the professionalisation of university teaching commended

Three decades of existence provided the Faculty of Science (FS) of the University of Douala with an opportunity to bring together its longstanding partners such as SNH, alumni, current students and their lecturers. The anniversary, organised under the aegis of the Rector, was spearheaded by Professor Marie Joseph Ntamak, Dean, the first woman to assume this role since the faculty’s inception in 1993.

The event served as a platform for SNH to present its activities and projects through a stand and an information session.

On this occasion, Professor Ntamak highlighted SNH’s position as the honoured guest and benefactor of the University of Douala’s Centre for Petroleum and Mining Sciences Studies and Research (Pétromines). Indeed, SNH’s support in 2011 was instrumental in establishing the first-ever petroleum geoscience computer lab in Cameroon and Central Africa. The project was realised in collaboration with Schlumberger, at a total cost of around 3 billion CFA francs according to Professor Ntamak.

SNH is at the forefront of an initiative to broaden this venture to additional academic institutions. Besides Petromines, these include the Earth Sciences departments at the Universities of Yaoundé I, Dschang, Buea, and Bamenda, as well as the Faculty of Mines and Petroleum Industries at the University of Maroua (based in Kaélé), and the School of Geology and Mining at the University of Ngaoundéré (located in Meïganga).
