SNH complies with legal provisions regarding environmental protection. Its projects and those of its partners are first subject to impact studies for all its activities. Furthermore, it is implementing a National Plan to Combat Accidental Oil Spills via the Pipeline Steering and Monitoring Committee (CPSP).

SNH is involved in international initiatives to preserve ecosystems, notably through an agreement with the World Bank relating to the Global Partnership for Flaring Gas Reduction (GGFR). She is also a member of the International Association of the Petroleum Industry for the Protection of the Environment (IPIECA) and International Oil Pollution Compensation Fund (IOPCF).
